'She Will Be Loved' Rated the Most Overplayed Song Ever

LUDINGTON, MI - 2004-10-20

BY KEVIN GERHART
NULLSET NEWS STAFF WRITER - MIDWEST BUREAU

The song “She Will Be Loved” off the Maroon5 album Songs About Jane was reported as being the “most overplayed song I’ve ever heard… ever,” by local computer technician Kevin Gerhart.  “She Will Be Loved” has held the number one slot on the American Top 40 since October 2, and the number two slot for three week before that.

“Now I understand that it’s a popular song, but 4 times an hour?” Gerhart ranted.  “Its getting a little out of hand, WMOM’s lineup goes like this…  "She Will Be Loved", Commercial, "She Will Be Loved", "Pieces of Me", Commercial, "She Will Be Loved", Random Selection, "She Will Be Loved", Commercial, "She Will Be Loved", "She Will Be Loved.”

Tensions reached dangerous levels last Saturday when Gerhart was returning to Ludington following a visit with his girlfriend Becky Young in Allendale, Michigan.  “Well I forgot my MP3 player so I had the stellar choices of listening to the crap on the radio or talking to myself.  Things were going ok until that friggin' song came on.  I reached over and punched a different preset, and guess what was playing?  That’s right, "She Will Be Loved"… again.  It was at this point that driving full throttle into the median started looking like a good idea.  I frantically called Becky and she assured me that an overplayed song was not worth ending my life and possibly the lives of other motorists in the southbound lane.”

“The way I see it, one of two things is happening to me.  I’m either getting old and close minded (and I mean more than I already am), or I am getting old and wiser.  Like wiser in that I am realizing that just because the rest of America likes something doesn’t necessarily make it any good!  I just want to scream, 'Wake up America!  It’s not that great of a song!'  My favorite part is the lead singer’s terribly discordant whining/howling voice.  Does anyone in America remember when it took talent to create music?  Judging by the American Top 40, I’m thinking no.”

Very thoughtful Kevin... It could be so much worse. You could be a pot-smoking, drug-addicted, beer-drinking raging alcoholic who's only way 'out' is through belly-dancing. Good to know you're a little more sane than that.

Well, Kevin's concluded he's getting old, but isn't sure if he's getting more close minded or wiser. Let's take an online poll! Is Kevin getting old and close minded, old and wiser, or just old?

This is a tough question. I must watch my answer because kevin holds the Halloween costume that I would like to wear. I believe that kevin is getting some of all three of the answers. If this is possible, he is getting old, closed-minded, and wiser. Wow, that just made my head hurt.

Yeah, C-Diddy has it there. Old, closed-minded, and a bit wiser. He was the first two a while ago, and the third keeps creeping up on him. Man, there's a reason I'm glad I'm in the UK. I'm far, far away from the WMOM playlist. Although I do have to thank them for exposing me to Bowling for Soup's classic '1985.'

How did this good article about the terrible injustice about society and thier silly and oh so redundant playlists become a forum for talking about Kevin being closed minded? We all know Kevin is cloed minded, heck Kevin knows Kevin is closed minded! I wanna see some moron post and say that this song is so good that it deserves to be played constantly everywhere! So I can ridicule him to no end for being stupid and having poor music tatse!

Excuse me 2 of 6, allow me to explain why I opened the forum. Kevin's profile here on The Nullset doesn't mention anything specifically about him being old, close-minded, or wise(er), so this is just a clarification so that the readership may better understand him. Maybe the question should have been if Kevin is becoming MORE close-minded! New question, everyone, and feel free to respond to the first as well if you have an opinion! Is Kevin becoming MORE close-minded? And while you're at it, IS this song the MOST overplayed ever?

Also, if you are both deeply devoted to pop music, quick to take offense, and willing to argue with Wade by primarily using a combination of outrage, hurt feelings, and 'Why do you care if I like the song, jerk?' then please, post on our comment boards here.

Direct from me to you, the most NOT Maroon 5 cd ever. We'll have a little Tool, some Tenacious D, Led Zepplin, Rollin's Band, One Away from Breathing, some Pink Floyd here and there. I will make your socks rock!

for real, "She will be loved" should be the only song played, ever. no other bands should even exist because this song is sooooo good.

Yeah I don`t so much `listen` to the radio. This is the age of on-demand, and all that good stuff. I listen to Internet techno radio myself at the moment, and of course all the various music I have recorded, some of which I own     Errrrrr.... ALL of which I own... Yeah.... Ooo hang on a sec, the Internet Police are here. I have to go and greet them at the door.

That song bugs me really bad! Im more into the punk music, like my chemical romance, green day, and stuff like that. I also like listening to classic rock too so that song doesnt fit in at all.
